Job Summary
Anglo Singapore International School is seeking a compassionate, professional, and experienced Secondary School Counsellor to join our international school community in Bangkok. The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting student wellbeing, safeguarding, and pastoral care across the secondary years. This position is well suited to a counsellor who is confident in individual casework, works ethically and collaboratively, and is committed to supporting adolescents’ social-emotional development within a strong academic environment.
Job Overview
The Secondary School Counsellor provides professional counselling support to secondary students and contributes to the school’s safeguarding and student support systems. The role reports to the Secondary Principal and works closely with the Wellbeing and Student Development Department, mentors, teachers, and parents to ensure students receive appropriate, timely, and coordinated support. This is a student-focused counselling role, centred on wellbeing, case management, safeguarding, and professional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Provide individual and small-group counselling to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural wellbeing.
Act as a key point of contact for student wellbeing and pastoral cases, working collaboratively with teachers, school leaders, the Wellbeing and Student Development Department, and student mentors.
Support students experiencing anxiety, stress, emotional regulation challenges, peer relationship difficulties, or other wellbeing concerns common in adolescence.
Work closely with parents, meeting with families to discuss student wellbeing concerns, share professional guidance, and agree on appropriate support strategies.
Contribute actively to the school’s safeguarding and child protection processes, including identifying concerns, maintaining accurate records, and following reporting procedures.
Collaborate with external professionals, including psychologists, counsellors, therapists, and medical doctors, where appropriate and in consultation with the Secondary Principal and parents.
Support the coordination of referrals and follow-up care to ensure continuity and effectiveness of student support.
Provide consultation and guidance to teachers and mentors on supporting students’ emotional and behavioural needs within the school context.
Maintain accurate, confidential counselling records in line with professional, ethical, and school standards.
Respond appropriately to student wellbeing concerns or crisis situations, following established school protocols.
Promote a respectful, safe, and inclusive school culture that prioritises student wellbeing.
Engage in ongoing reflective practice and contribute positively to the wider school community.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Counselling, Psychology, Education, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
Recognised professional training or certification in counselling or psychology.
Prior experience working with secondary school-aged students is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of adolescent development, mental health, and wellbeing.
Experience in school-based counselling or pastoral care is an advantage.
Strong proficiency in English for professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse, international school environment.
